Randall Hinshaw, DVM
Randall attended the University of Georgia graduating with a B.S. in Agriculture in 1977 and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1982. Upon graduation, he joined Ashby Herd Health Services which is a cattle practice in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. His embryo transfer career began in 1983 with the collection of his first donor. The embryo transfer business continued to grow, and in 1995 he made the decision to focus full time on embryo transfer and reproductive ultrasound by creating Ashby Embryos; now Ashby Genetics. He has serviced clients in 16 states and Puerto Rico.
Randall has been involved with training veterinarians nationally in embryo transfer as the coordinator of the Edwin Robertson Beginning Embryo Transfer through the American Association of Bovine Practitioners. He has given presentations to producers, veterinary schools and educational meetings across the country. He has served as president of the Virginia Academy of Food Animal Practitioners, on the board of the American Embryo Transfer Association and the board of the American Association of Bovine Practitioners, and as president of the American Embryo Transfer Association.
Randall received the American Embryo Transfer Association President’s Award in 2005, the American Association of Bovine Practitioners Practitioner of the Year Award in 2006, and the Paul F. Landis Virginia Veterinarian of the Year Award in 2011 from the Virginia Veterinary Medical Association.

Matt Switzer
A native of Bridgewater, Virginia, Matt's roots in agriculture run deep. Matt was born and raised on his family's fourth generation dairy and chicken farm. Active in the local 4-H Dairy Club, he participated in dairy and livestock judging as well as quiz bowl contests throughout his youth. At Turner Ashby High School, Matt continued his involvement through FFA, competing in dairy, poultry, and livestock judging events and went on to earn both the State FFA Degree and the American Farmer Degree. Matt also was a multi-sport athlete and continued to work alongside his family on the farm, developing a deep appreciation for hard work and the agricultural way of life.
In 2004, Matthew earned a bachelor’s degree in Dairy Science with a minor in Agricultural and Applied Economics from Virginia Tech. While at Virginia Tech, he served as Vice President of the Dairy Club and competed on the collegiate dairy judging team.
Upon graduation, Matt joined Ashby Genetics (formerly Ashby Embryos) in May 2004 as an embryologist. With over 21 years experience in the industry, Matt specializes in the collection, evaluation, freezing, and transfer of bovine embryos. His work focuses on helping producers improve herd genetics and reproductive efficiency through advanced embryo transfer techniques. As Director, Matt's top priority is to help producers achieve their breeding goals - whether that’s preserving elite genetics, increasing conception rates, or optimizing herd performance. He oversees client communications, scheduling, inventory management, and practice operations. Matt also contributes to industry education, assisting in national training programs for technicians and veterinarians in embryo transfer through seminars offered by the American Association of Bovine Practitioners.
In 2006, Matt married his wife, Rachel. They recently relocated to Lynchburg, Tennessee, where they enjoy raising their four children in the countryside of Moore County. Outside of his work with Ashby Genetics, you can find Matt spending time on the lake, the sidelines of his children's sports, and cheering on the Hokies!
