Matt Switzer

A native of Bridgewater, Virginia, Matt's roots in agriculture run deep. Matt was born and raised on his family's fourth generation dairy and chicken farm. Active in the local 4-H Dairy Club, he participated in dairy and livestock judging as well as quiz bowl contests throughout his youth. At Turner Ashby High School, Matt continued his involvement through FFA, competing in dairy, poultry, and livestock judging events and went on to earn both the State FFA Degree and the American Farmer Degree. Matt also was a multi-sport athlete and continued to work alongside his family on the farm, developing a deep appreciation for hard work and the agricultural way of life.

In 2004, Matthew earned a bachelor’s degree in Dairy Science with a minor in Agricultural and Applied Economics from Virginia Tech. While at Virginia Tech, he served as Vice President of the Dairy Club and competed on the collegiate dairy judging team.

Upon graduation, Matt joined Ashby Genetics (formerly Ashby Embryos) in May 2004 as an embryologist. With over 21 years experience in the industry, Matt specializes in the collection, evaluation, freezing, and transfer of bovine embryos. His work focuses on helping producers improve herd genetics and reproductive efficiency through advanced embryo transfer techniques. As Director, Matt's top priority is to help producers achieve their breeding goals - whether that’s preserving elite genetics, increasing conception rates, or optimizing herd performance. He oversees client communications, scheduling, inventory management, and practice operations. Matt also contributes to industry education, assisting in national training programs for technicians and veterinarians in embryo transfer through seminars offered by the American Association of Bovine Practitioners.

In 2006, Matt married his wife, Rachel. They recently relocated to Lynchburg, Tennessee, where they enjoy raising their four children in the countryside of Moore County. Outside of his work with Ashby Genetics, you can find Matt spending time on the lake, the sidelines of his children's sports, and cheering on the Hokies!

Zeb Duvall, DVM

Dr. Zeb Duvall was raised in Greensboro, Georgia, where his family owned and operated a dairy and poultry farm. Before leaving for the University of Georgia, the dairy was converted into a commercial cow-calf operation that became a recipient herd, which led to his introduction to Dr. Randall and Matt at Ashby Genetics. In 2011, Zeb graduated from UGA College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences with degrees in Animal Science and Dairy Science. Later that year, he began his first year at UGA College of Veterinary Medicine through the Food Animal Veterinary Incentive Program. Upon completion of his DVM in 2015, Zeb began practicing in Georgia as a bovine veterinarian with a special interest in reproductive medicine. That led him to begin collecting, freezing, and transferring conventionally derived embryos in 2016. In 2019, Zeb continued his focus in this field by joining Trans Ova Genetics, where he provided OPU procedures and in vitro produced embryo transfer services throughout the southeast. Zeb has been with Ashby Genetics since the Fall of 2021 where he continues to provide ET services in the southern part of our territory. Outside of his work in cattle reproduction and the family farm, Zeb enjoys the occasional fishing trip and spending time with his wife, Katie, and their friends and family.

Hannah Craun

Hannah Craun is a native of Bridgewater, VA, where she was raised on her family’s dairy and beef cattle operation. Competing in livestock judging, beginning in 4-H and FFA, paved the way for her to attend Fort Scott Community College then Texas Tech University, where she completed her Bachelor’s in Animal Science with a production concentration. While at TTU, she was a member of a highly competitive livestock judging team and the 2019 National Champion Meat Animal Evaluation team. Hannah recently graduated from Virginia Tech with her Master’s degree in Animal and Poultry Sciences. Her research program focused on the intersection of bovine reproduction and nutrition; particularly how several reproductive parameters are affected by nutrient restriction. While at Virginia Tech, she enjoyed being a member of the Reproductive Biology Club, spending time working with 4-H and Extension programming, assisting with youth livestock events around the state, and meeting all the great people. Along with this, she assistant-coached the state 4-H livestock judging team and co-coached the Virginia Tech Livestock Judging Team. Since the spring of 2024, Hannah has been a part of the Virginia based Ashby team. She serves as an embryologist along with doing some data management and client communications.
